Why do we blog?

What is a blog for? I’ve asked myself that many times over the years. I’ve now decided that there are as many answers as there are bloggers. Obviously businesses, celebrities, indeed anyone with anything to sell, are blogging as part of their promotional activities. But what about those who do it largely for fun?

Some blogs are truly interesting, and the bloggers have a real knack of connecting with their readers, whether their subject is universal or incredibly niche. Others are perhaps less connective, but give their authors the chance to get something out of their system.

In my experience, the best blogs are those that tend to concentrate on one or two areas; something that is personal to the writer, be that a hobby, a passion, an illness even. Followers can get ideas, help and inspiration from such blogs, and it leads to lots of close knit communities of people who may otherwise never have come into contact.

So I have taken the plunge. I have a passion for books and history, yet have little opportunity to discuss them in my offline life. So I want to float some of my interests and opinions here and see if anyone wants to read and discuss them.
